For the young animal lover, this computer game allows kids to own and care for their own virtual dogs and cats.

Caring for a pet is a great way for kids to learn responsibility and compassion while having a little fun. Unfortunately it isn't always feasible for every family to have a pet of their own, due to finances or allergies or location. Here's where computer software can be a big help. Over the years there have been numerous attempts at creating computer games where the player cares for pets. These games have had mixed results. Some were very limiting in what they would allow the pets to do while others just weren't very realistic. Petz:Dogz 5 and Catz 5 Compilation avoids all these pitfalls.

Petz Features

In this game you adopt your kitten or puppy and sign a pledge to be a good pet owner. You can choose your new pet from a number of different breeds. As the game progresses, your pet animal grows up. The game goes through days and nights, months of the year, and changes in the weather, as in real life. You are responsible for your pet's welfare, so you feed them, train them, exercise them, and play with them. If you don't, they may run away. You can also customize your pet's environment. Eventually your pet may have a litter of its own.

Who Can Play

Petz is rated E for Everyone, and even the very young child should enjoy this game. It is not so difficult that they wouldn't understand how to make the game work. On the other hand, older children will also find that the game includes enough variety to keep them interested. Kids between the ages of three and ten will get the most enjoyment out of Petz.

Technical Specifications

Petz comes in a CD-ROM format and runs on a PC. It can be run with various versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Windows Me. This is not a brand new game, having been released in 2005, and the price is very reasonable. Petz comes from one of the world's largest software developers, UbiSoft, in business since 1986.
